In order to meet the increased demand on apprentice registration for in-school training at the Ontario Sheet Metal Workers Training Centre, The Operational Board Board of Directors and the Executive Director of the Provincial Sheet Metal Workers Training Trust Fund are pleased to announce that we are accepting applications for full time and part time instructors for both Sheet Metal and Welding programs.

POSITION: Instructors for the Ontario Sheet Metal Workers Training Centre

EFFECTIVE DATE: July 28, 2008

DUTIES: The instructor is responsible for providing academic leadership and for developing an effective environment for students through the design and revision of subject and program objectives, defining and evaluating learning outcomes, developing appropriate teaching and learning environments, and the development/ selection of appropriate learning materials. The instructor also teaches subjects in his/her area of expertise, tutors and counsels students, and evaluates student program/ achievements. He/ she participates in the work of curriculum program advisory and other committees and keeps current in his/ her field through consultation with labour and industry representatives. The instructor may also be called upon to contribute to other areas of activity ancillary to the academic programs of the Centre.

The successful candidate for this position will be able to teach students in the Sheet Metal Apprenticeship program and other programs within the Training Centre.

QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified applicants must hold a minimum four year degree or equivalent; licensed journey person (certificate of qualification and apprenticeship) related to the Sheet Metal Industry or equivalent from an accredited educational institution recognized by the Training Centre. Offer a minimum five years professional experience in the Construction (ICI) sector, and have a minimum of two years teaching and curriculum development experience. Experience with collaborative teaching, learning strategies and teaching adult learners are essential. A strong background in several of the following areas is essential since the applicant may be assigned courses related to: Welding, Blue Print , Sheet Metal Theory, AutoCad, ASHRAE, SMACNA etc. The Welding Instructor must be a certified welder holding a valid C of Q in Welding, as well as a Sheet Metal C of Q.

Excellent communication and human relations skills and a commitment to diversity and equity are essential to interact effectively with the students and staff. The ability to convey the conceptual and practical aspects of subjects to students, respecting their diverse backgrounds, experience and individual learning styles is also essential, as is the desire to contribute to the education of the next generation of students. Candidates must also be committed to working within a team environment and to participating in a consultative decision making process
